Financial Support |
|
| The funds used for the support of the Horizons-Upward Bound Program come
from several sources: the Horizons component is funded by friends (corporations,
foundations, individuals); the Upward Bound component is funded by the
US Department of Education. The cost to support one student for a is $4,200
per year. Horizons-Upward Bound has moved through a period of considerable growth since its inception in 1965 when it began with 52 students and now serves nearly four times that number. Private support to HUB results in additional students participating in the program, and strengthens the entire program. Contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations are key to HUB's ability to continually strengthen itself by attracting a qualified staff, offering modest incentives for student achievement and increasing the number if in-class days. With yearly operating expenses in excess of three-quarters of a million dollars and federal grants and endowment earnings providing only two-thirds these expenses, over on-quarter of a million dollars is needed from friends, alumni, foundations and corporations in order to maintain HUB's current enrollment and service levels.
